A Surrey man is facing drug-smuggling charges after the largest land border bust in western Canada.
On July 19, Canadian Border Services Agency officers at the Huntingdon border found 144 bricks of cocaine hidden inside a commercial truck.
The cocaine, worth about $3.5 million, was likely heading for Metro Vancouver streets.
Officers detected anomalies while searching the commercial trailer’s refrigeration unit. Stashed inside the unit were numerous cellophane-wrapped packages of coke, weighing a total of 144 kilograms.
The 26-year-old driver was immediately arrested and turned over to the RCMP. He has since been released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 24.
