Plane skids off runway at Madrid airport: Confirmed Dead 153 Passengers

Update 8:01pm EST – It has now been confirmed 153 passengers perished in the Madrid airplane crash today.

Update 3:30pm EST – Most of the passengers aboard a commercial airliner are feared dead after it crashed during takeoff in Madrid.

More info will be forthcoming as this story develops.

It has been confirmed by Reuters New Service that Passengers did die in the Madrid Plane Crash this afternoon, but unclear how many died.

Update, It has been reported by Reuters news service that 43 passengers are dead, 19 seriously injured by emergency service workers at the scene. Two babies were onboard.

Some reports at the time of this posting are now saying 150 may have died, as the plane has a full load of fuel,  more news is coming in, if now public has more news to share it would be appreciated, as I have to go to work now.

There are no reports this was terrorism.

Plane skids off runway at Madrid airport

A Spanish aircraft has been involved in a serious incident at Madrid’s main airport, according to Spanish media reports.

El Mundo is reporting that the plane shot off the runway at Barajas Airport Terminal Four as it was taking off. It said 20 people were injured in the incident. The Spanair plane, with 160 passengers on board was travelling from Madrid to Gran Canaria.

El Mundo said the port engine was on fire as the plane and the pilot aborted the take-off. The plane is reportedly on fire and emergency services are at the scene. © 2008 irishtimes.com

Madrid plane crash: No passengers feared dead

Wednesday, 20 Aug 2008 14:40 A plane has reportedly come off the runway at a Madrid airport, although no one is thought to have been killed.

A commercial airliner bound for the Canary Islands with at least 173 people aboard crashed during takeoff today at Madrid’s ultramodern Barajas airport, exploding in flames and killing most people on board.

A Spanish plane with more than 170 people on board went off the runway Wednesday at Madrid’s Barajas Airport, killing at least 90 people, officials said.

Boeing spokesman Jim Proulx (proo) says the company is sending at least one person to help investigated the crash of the MD-82 at the Madrid airport.
