WIS-TV in Columbai SC is reporting a teenager was shot in the stomach in lower Richland County on Thursday night. according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened on Auburn Leaf Drive around midnight. That’s near Leesburg Road.Resident Lydia Grogan was in here home Thursday night when she heard the shot go off in her front yard.
“I was in my living room on my couch. And I heard something fire off. And I thought maybe it was fireworks or something so I sent my son outside to tell his friends to leave my yard. Not knowing someone had gotten shot in my yard,” Grogan said.
Witnesses and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department say a small group of teenagers had been playing around with a handgun.
Officials say they fired it at least a couple of times before one of them accidentally shot one of his friends.
The victim, a 16-year-old known to his friends as “CJ” was rushed to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. At last report he was listed in critical condition.
