The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows a steady race with Barack Obama enjoying a five percentage point lead over John McCain. Obama attracts 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 41%. When “leaners” are included, Obama leads 49% to 44% (see recent daily results). Obama leads by twelve percentage points among women, but trails by three among men. Among White Women, McCain leads by just four percentage points. That’s a much smaller advantage among White Women than George W. Bush enjoyed four years ago.
Overall, McCain leads by nine among White Voters. Obama leads 94% to 3% among African-American voters and 61% to 30% among Hispanic voters.
Obama is viewed favorably by 56% of voters and unfavorably by 42%. McCain’s numbers are 54% favorable and 43% unfavorable. Opinions are more strongly held about Obama than McCain–32% have a Very Favorable opinion of Obama while 27% have a Very Unfavorable view. An analysis of Rasmussen Reports data from 15,000 telephone interviews shows that libertarian voters favor Obama over McCain.
New data released today shows that voters are strongly opposed to a proposal that would lower the speed limit national to 55 miles-per-hour. Voters continue to prefer solutions that focus on obtaining more energy rather than conservation.
