Sorry Charlie, We don’t want congressman with good taste, we want congressman who are good. Calls for Congressman Charles Rangel’s resignation will not fall upon deaf ears this time. House Ethics Panel finds that Rangel broke House rules by accepting trips to the Caribbean from 2007-2008.
An ethics panel of the U.S. House of Representatives has found that Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., broke House rules, the AP reported. Rangel is the chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, which writes tax laws.
The ethics committee concluded that Rangel knowingly accepted Caribbean trips in 2007 and 2008 in violation of House rules that forbid hidden financing by corporations, the AP has learned.
Rangel has been under an ethical cloud for a few years regarding questions about those trips, unreported income from a home he owns in the Dominican Republic, the rent he pays on rent-stabilized apartments in a Harlem building, and his alleged use of House stationary to solicit money for an academic center that bears his name at CUNY’s City College.
So far, Rangel has rebuffed calls for him to relinquish his chairmanship.

Rangel says he’ll be admonished over travel payments
Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel will be formally admonished Friday by the House Ethics Committee, he told reporters Thursday.
The issue concerns who paid for travel he and several other members of the Congressional Black Caucus took to the Caribbean in 2007 and 2008.
The powerful chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee told CNN that the ethics committee had approved the travel.
Rangel's district includes the Harlem neighborhood of New York.
