Chief Denies Turf War: Ottawa our Nations Capital

Police Chief Vern Whites assessment of there are NO Criminal Gangs embroiled in a Turf war in our Nations Capital makes me cringe, when a region smaller than most cities, has 17-19 different Gangs roaming the Capitals streets with 600 strong armed and dangerous terrorizing the citizenry of all 23 wards.

Wards with roaming gangs. though most centred in areas less desirable, going out into neighbourhoods where the wealth is.

Now considering an army battalion is made up of around 450 soldiers. I would think a battalion and a half walking the streets would be a concern for any Police Chief, turf war or not.

Eventually a turf war will develop, when the Battalion of gangs are more centred in the city and very close surrounding areas within a 10-15 kilometer area. Hells Angels by the way are not part of this equation, and at least the Angels keep within their own and could be your next door neighbour and you most likely would not know it.

To Ottawa’s credit many of of the gang members convicted were deported back to their countries, largely Vietnamese, Ethiopian and Somalian gangs. But then African and Asian based gangs operating in Ottawa will be replaced by new gangs taking over their turf to fill the void of disenfranchised youth looking to join a company of their peers.

Vancouver on the other hand has gang members in the thousands and gang problems far worse than Ottawa could even imagine.

That is pretty hard to fathom when Ottawa and Vancouver regions are of similar size. It looks like it will only get worse better it even begins to get better.

Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his minority government, all who live in our Nations Capital has always had a party platform on Crime, ensuring that when elected the youth act would ensure Serious times for Crimes in order to alleviate this issue affecting cities all over Canada.

To date, some of his Government crime bills have passed the Senate and the House of Commons, but the more stringent bills the Conservatives have been trying to pass, have been stonewalled and left on the table due to the Liberal Majority Senate.

Hence one of the reasons why our Prime Minister will be calling an election to ensure a Conservative Majority in order to carry out laws Canadian Demand.

Chief denies turf war

Chief Vern White called a media conference yesterday to say there’s no evidence of a gang turf war in Ottawa and accused the media of creating fear among residents.

White was referring to a Sept. 5 Ottawa Sun story with a front-page headline that asked the question: “West End Turf War?”

The story chronicled recent home invasions and other violent crimes in the west end, particularly Bayshore, where residents told the Sun they hear gunshots nearly every night and can’t sleep.
“I am concerned that recent news stories have been both misleading and fear-mongering,” White said in a prepared statement.

ARMED MEN “Not only are some residents terrified, we are very concerned that street gangs will construe this as a turf war at play that has been officially confirmed by Ottawa Police,” he added. The Sun story reported that when two armed men barged into a Bayshore townhouse last month, they said they were members of the Crips street gang from Ottawa South.

“We are also well aware that street gangs are involved in the sale of drugs, prostitution, intimidation, robberies and possession of firearms and we continue to make strides in addressing criminal activity,” he added.

White acknowledged that there are 17-19 active street gangs in Ottawa, with about 600 members between the ages of 17 and 24.
