Ex testifies against HIV husband
By DON PEAT, SUN MEDIA
HAMILTON — The ex-wife of the HIV-infected man accused of murdering two women by knowingly spreading the virus testified she attended counselling with the accused where he was warned of his duty to disclose his condition to sex partners.
Juliet Aziga’s brief testimony came in the last few minutes of the second day of the landmark murder trial.
Her evidence, coupled with testimony from Johnson Aziga’s doctor, helped the Crown paint a picture of the life of the HIV-positive man facing two counts of first-degree murder and 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault.
Court heard Aziga, a Ugandan immigrant who arrived in the early 1980s, was repeatedly warned after his diagnosis on how to prevent spreading the disease.
Aziga was also well-informed of his duty to disclose his HIV status to someone before having sex with them, court heard.
