Conservative Cafe serves up Coffee with the “Right” Flavor

Walk “Right” in and have a cup of Coffee with the “Right” Flavor.  Its not just your average cup of Joe.  Fox News in the Background, a stock market ticker, Coulter, Malkin, an Reagan books all around.  A conservative knows he is in the Right place, It is called the Conservative Cafe in Crown Point, Indiana.  If you are deep within a hot bed of Liberal thinking,  here stands an Oasis of Conservative thought. This is not Star Bucks!

Behind the counter, owner Dave Beckham smiles proudly in a khaki T-shirt that reads “Zip It, Hippie.” The shirt is for sale at the Crown Point, Ind., cafe, along with ones that say “Peace through Superior Firepower.”

“It’s a change from the traditional liberal bastion coffeehouses,” Beckham says. “No one is going to bad-mouth America in here.”

Friends warned Beckham to stay away from the conservative theme before the cafe opened in October. The former art teacher says he came up with the idea about five years ago, after souring on Starbucks and the other higher-end coffee chains.

He didn’t like piped-in folk music, specialty drinks with faux-Italian names or patrons who frittered the hours away on laptops or listening to iPods. The atmosphere, he said, seemed an affront to Midwestern values he learned growing up in northwest Indiana.

A Conservative Cafe is not just a cafe or just about conservative thinking, it is the self-titled concept of Dave Beckham and his wife, Jill. Dave decided that specialty coffee would provide him with the opportunity to turn his love of coffee and his moral thinking into a business.

Dave saw his opportunity to develop and open a coffee café concept that had long been in the back of his mind. The new center had the perfect amount of space and so the café was born.

Dave envisioned a café that would provide the community with a gathering place. A place that would not only serve fine coffee and espresso based drinks but good food, fresh baked pastries, bread & desserts. A place where people of all ages could enjoy a mocha, latte or cappuccino specially prepared by well trained Baristas while watching Fox News on the big screen televisions or while surfing the internet on the free wi-fi. A place that stocks four quality varieties of fresh roasted whole bean coffee. Customers enjoy a place that is known for outstanding customer service.

The Democratic Response:

This is no joke – a restaurant in Crown Point, Indiana will open soon which is named, The Conservative Cafe. It’s motto is “coffee served right.” I’ve got to admit that’s funny. But…

The owner wants a place where conservatives can congregate and feel safe to talk about American “values” and watch Fox Noise on the television. It’s embarrassing to admit I live in this town.

Needless to say, I will not be going there anytime soon. I’m patiently waiting to see how many people actually show up. Crown Point is traditionally conservative, but has been more mainstream than radical.

Is this a sign of the times here in backwoods Indiana? Or just the feverish dream of a crazed conservative? The link is below. It was supposed to open this past spring and then moved to this past summer. But I guess, like most Conservatives, they don’t know how to plan things very well.
