Election 2008 Show me the Money

Here is the 2008 Election Cycle Giving by Industry to Candidates.  The question arises, What is the reason industries and Political Action Committees give to a particular candidate?  Note: Barak Obama states in almost every speech that he takes NO PAC money.  Based on what you see here is that true?  Both democratic candidates state that Republican campaigns are financed by special interests and big oil.  Conversely, The Republican manta is that Democrats are financed by Trial Lawyers , Insurance, and Pharmaceuticals.  Republicans and Democrats both say the other is financed by Lobbyists.  Without pointing things out here, look at the charts to see if your candidate is being financed by industries that have a possible gain for giving to that candidate.  Who gets more money from healthcare?  Who gets money from single issue special interests?  Who gets the Most from Trial Lawyers?  Who gets the most from Energy?  For further information please see http://www.opensecrets.org which tracks money, legislation, and Bills Sponsors to give the public and understanding of why money is given to a particular candidate and what legislation that candidate introduced so one can correlate the two variables: Money / Legislation.

METHODOLOGY: The totals on these charts are calculated from PAC contributions and contributions from individuals giving more than $200, as reported to the Federal Election Commission. Individual contributions are generally categorized based on the donor’s occupation/employer, although individuals may be classified instead as ideological donors if they’ve given more than $200 to an ideological PAC.
