Police deactivate Amber Alert for missing Nevada 6-year-old

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) — Police on Saturday deactivated an Amber Alert for a 6-year-old boy abducted Wednesday from his Las Vegas, Nevada, home in what authorities believe was a drug-related kidnapping.

The search for Cole Puffinburger has spanned the American Southwest and captured national attention. Police said he was kidnapped by three armed bandits who entered his home early Wednesday, tying up the boy’s mother and her fiance, ransacking the home and taking the child when no money was found.

It was not immediately clear why the Amber Alert, which originated in Nevada and later was expanded nationwide, was deactivated. Police are planning a 5 p.m. ET press conference, according to Nevada’s Amber Alert Web site.
